Dark Triad

## THE DARK TRIAD. ### And 9 differences between narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy. ❶ THEIR PRIMARY MOTIVATION. Narcissism seeks admiration. Machiavellianism seeks advantage. Psychopathy seeks power, stimulation, or personal gain with little regard for others. ❷ THEIR VIEW OF OTHER PEOPLE. Narcissists want an audience. Machiavellians see people as strategic assets. Psychopathic traits are associated with using people with little emotional attachment. ❸ THEIR EMOTIONAL EMPATHY. Narcissistic traits may involve reduced empathy when self-interest is threatened. Machiavellian individuals may understand emotions but use that knowledge strategically. Psychopathic traits are often associated with shallow emotional responses and low emotional empathy. ❹ THEIR STYLE OF MANIPULATION. Narcissists seek admiration and validation. Machiavellians manipulate through planning, deception, and calculation. Psychopathic traits are more often linked to bold, exploitative, and risk-taking behavior. ❺ THEIR RESPONSE TO GUILT. Narcissists often protect their self-image. Machiavellians justify harmful actions as necessary. Psychopathic traits are frequently associated with little remorse after harming others. ❻ THEIR RESPONSE TO CONFLICT. Narcissists may react with rage when their ego is threatened. Machiavellians prefer strategic, indirect moves. Psychopathic traits are associated with fearlessness and impulsive confrontation in some individuals. ❼ THEIR APPROACH TO RELATIONSHIPS. Narcissists seek admiration. Machiavellians seek usefulness. Psychopathic traits are associated with exploitation and emotional detachment. ❽ THEIR PUBLIC IMAGE. Narcissists crave attention. Machiavellians often work quietly behind the scenes. People with psychopathic traits may appear charming, confident, or fearless while concealing harmful behavior. ❾ THEY CAN OVERLAP, BUT THEY ARE NOT THE SAME. The Dark Triad describes three distinct personality trait patterns: narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathic traits. A person may show one, two, or all three to varying degrees. These concepts describe traits rather than providing a diagnosis of any individual. Sent from my iPhone
