Penrith’s Amazing Grand Final Win
Thoughts on the Penrith grand final win. Winning after all hope was lost and winning in the last 20 minutes of an impossible game. We begin our lives with great hopes and aspirations about our careers, our marriages, our children. Then something happens. Our career goes south, our marriage goes sour, our children go awry, and our dreams are shattered. If that's happened to you, hang on to hope. Meadowlark Lemon, the old Harlem Globetrotter basketball super star, said, "The most useless statistic in sports is the halftime score." More than one game has been won in the second half, in the last two minutes, and even in the last second. How many football games have been lost this season by a last minute final minute kick? And what about this years' grand final? Penrith trailed Brisbane Broncos 24 to 8. I have to admit, I had given up! With only twenty minutes to go. Penrith we're losing very badly. It would be impossible to get three tries in 20 minutes when it had taken 60 minutes to get just one try against a very very good Broncos team. Yes Queensland (the maroon cockroaches) were an excellent team that now would not only eradicate NSW in the State of Origin competitions, but they would now wipe the floor with Penrith. Penrith. The team that prayed together publicly after every game. Penrith. Our team! Yes I have become a Westy. Everyone had given up. Except Nathan Cleary. He brought them home to a 26 to 24 win. There is someone Who wants to bring you home no matter how bad things look right now. Our God is a God of second chances so don't give up. God's not through with you yet. He wants to bring you home even though it looks bad, real bad. The fact is, God's not through with you even if you are through with him. As Yogi Berra a legendary US football coach once famously said, "It ain't over till it's over." And the opportunity is before you to let the Lord bring you home. He sent His Son to die to be your Redeemer. He wants you to experience grace, forgiveness, and mercy even though you've given up on you. God's Word says 1 Timothy 1:15. The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. Jesus said "Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life." John 5:24 Trust Him even if you are in the last minute and have given up hope!
