Saving Christmas 1. Luke 1:39-56

Sound of music the Hills are alive with the sound of music..            Joy enthusiasm

And why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me?44 For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.

The very heart of the story of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, we read that the angel said to Joseph, "Thou shalt call His name JESUS, for He shall save His people from their sins." The name "Jesus" means "Saviour."

We all need a Saviour; and second: Jesus is the Saviour we need. Surely no one will deny that our first great need is for someone who will save us from sin in all its blackness and ugliness? You see, we are all sinners by birth. We were born that way ; born sinners. Like the Psalmist we must say, "Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me."

But we are sinners also by practice. That is to say, we are sinners because we actually commit sin. "The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies." We have not only the root of sin within us, but the fruit of sin is shown in our evil ways and in our wrongdoing. "All we like sheep have gone astray ; we have turned every one to his own way." This is true not only of a few people, but of all people, everywhere. "The Scripture hath concluded all under sin." "All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." "There is none righteous, no, not one." "There is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not." So we are all sinners. That is the universal verdict—and because we are sinners we need a Saviour.

First, We need a Saviour from the guilt and penalty of sin.  And there is absolutely nothing we can do of ourselves and by ourselves to remove the penalty of our sin.

But we also need a Saviour from the pollution of sin. Sin is a stain, and we all know only too well that our hearts are unclean. They are "deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked."

We also need a Saviour from the power of sin.

Jesus is the Saviour we need.             because of who He is                        because of what He has done.

The "Magnificat" "my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour."

"My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for he who is mighty has done great things for me,  and holy is his name. 50 And his mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. 51He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts;

he has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of humble estate;

he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy,

as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his offspring forever."

1) He is called her Saviour (47)                 2) He is called the Mighty One (48)
3) His name is Holy (49)                              4) He is merciful (50)
5) He is stronger than all the kingdoms (51)       6) He fills the needy with good things (53)
7) He is the God who keeps His promises to Israel. (54-57)

The "Magnificat" "my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour."

Jesus is the Saviour we need.       because of who He is     because of what He has done.

Luke 19:9, 10   And Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost."

He knows you      He knows your true need            He is that Saviour for you  Our hearts are alive with the Joy in our Saviour!
